[Rex is For Records] began in the summer of 2006. It started as an offshoot of Contramotor Magazine, which back in those days dedicated half of its pages to the discussion of music and to the search for new artists and sounds. started based on the premise of free downloadable albums by original, exclusive artists. The parameters were wide and flexible, and there was not a single dominant genre in the catalogue; things as diverse as rock, folk, lo-fi and electronica met and mingled in a casual, natural manner.
always had a thing for the fetishistic, collectible side of things. Today, in 2011, Umor Rex begins a new phase with the release of vinyl records, cassettes and CDR's. We plan to release the first two records in autumn 2011, and then to continue releasing albums on different formats at a periodic pace. Consistent with our diy nature and our love of physical media, releases will be limited pressings done with extra special care for aesthetics, looking to make records worthy of being sought and collected not only for their musical contents but also for their loving designs.
is based in Mexico, though true to its origins as a netlabel, the bulk of its catalogue is spread around the globe; throughout these years we have published artists from the U.K., the U.S., Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Brazil, Mexico and other places. This has generated for us a fragmented but loyal following that only seems to grow with each successive release.
